As part of the Mend n Mingle series, discover the meditative art of Japanese Sashiko, using simple running stitches to create decorative reinforcement. Learn how to patch denim and woven fabrics with geometric patterns while cultivating mindfulness through repetitive handwork.
Workshop leader: Fran Crane and Penny Else are members of the creative group Dun-Up. They meet regularly to reimagine fabrics and clothes, which they sell to raise money for local community groups. They share a particular interest in Sashiko and have mended and made a great many pieces. Like many of us, they love the Japanese aesthetic and will share their skills and take us through the making of a sampler, that will give us a cross section of techniques we can start our So Sashiko journeys.
Workshop fee: $55.00
Fran and Penny are kindly using their facilitator fees to add to the fundraising initiative of Dun-Up. They are part of this creative community group passionate about keeping unwanted textiles out of landfill. Based in Dungog, NSW they also fundraise to support local community groups doing good work, have aligned values and where they see their contribution is needed most.
